"My work reflects the Arizona desert: the bajadas, the mountain vistas, the canyon walls and the myriad of nature's subtleties surrounding me. I create clay mountain landscapes, free form wall-plaques, and lamp bases in an effort to capture the essence of the Arizona mountains, valleys, and canyons that I have explored throughout my life. The Portraits of Clay, renderings of specific individuals, are created to reflect the personalities and energy of each person. Kitchen clay items related to food and drink are meant to be utilitarian and pleasing to the eye. My whimsical art works in clay are made to provide me with a light hearted alternative to the sometimes serious nature of art. My work is intended to be a reflection of the different avenues of my life."

Karen Medley has been a resident of Oracle, Arizona for over three decades. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University with graduate work at University of California, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, and Arizona State University. She completed her studies with the J.P. Getty Art Institute of Los Angeles.
