Artists in Oracle and Surrounding Communities

"I have been involved in some form of art all of my life. In high school I excelled in art classes, but since art was not viewed as a career of substance, I went on to pursue a career in business. Before beginning my academic pursuits, I lived in Europe for five years where I was exposed to the powerful images of ancient eras displayed in museums, churches, and other historical places so prevalent in Europe."

"For five years, I experimented with paper mache and oil painted, honing the forgotten love of art from my younger years. I was successful at selling my art. Finding other women with similar interest, I started the first Art Association at Ramstein AFB, Germany."

"After returning to the states in 1976, my art again took a backseat to raising children. My box of supplies, brushes, and an easel were put away. In 1995 while living in Richmond, VA, I enrolled in an art class at J. Sergeant Reynolds College. Other students questioned why I was in the class if I already knew how to paint, but I painted for the enjoyment and to schedule the time for my favorite activity. Once again, I placed my love of art on the backburner working full-time and to finish my academic degrees."

"It was years later moving to Tucson that I begun to design jewelry and take a keen interest in the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Tammy Malak, my step-daughter and accomplished designer of bead art showed me many of the techniques and intricacies wearable art. This got me started and for 5 years now I have been designing jewelry that I call 'art to wear.' Who knows, someday I might pull out the oils and paint brushes again but for now I enjoy making people happy with my jewelry."
